Rehabilitation and Recovery

Addiction Treatment counselors who help addicts and families find answers in substance abuse, alcohol rehab or drug addiction treatment centers that work.

I speak to hundreds of addicts and families weekly and most of the time its really hard for anyone to understand the components of addiction and the importance of inpatient drug treatment versus doing any kind of outpatient program.

Its like a constant struggle people seem to be willing to go through for several month fighting addiction on a daily basis. I guess the biggest thing is most people dont realize the system is set up to fail. I mean, if you sit back and think about it just for a second you would realize we know much about how drugs and alcohol effect the human body.

These afffects which are primarily caused by the physiological affects of the drugs or alcohol, take hold and take several months if not years to overcome. Also these affects are directly tied to how a person thinks and feels.  For example, did you realize when your body doesnt produce an adequate supply of vitamin B it reduces the its own ability to produce the neaurotransmitter endorphins which contributes to depression, anxiety and weight gain. Drugs and alcohol burn up a tremendous amount of vitamin B.

The other thing I noticed is the availability of drug treatment programs in more affluent areas versus more poverty stricken areas where its needed most. I was doing some research on cities in Alabama. There is an adequate supply of Madison Alabama drug rehabs and when compared to the availability of drugs rehabs or substance abuse treatment programs in Mobile, where the crime rate skyrockets was ridiculous. People really need to get educated about drugs and addiction.

It really gets hard sometimes to convince people what they need to do to save their own life. People struggle with addiction for years and think that it can be over in just a few days, if they can only get through the rough part of withdrawal. Very few people, unless faced with no other option want to enter an inpatient drug treatment or alcohol rehab program.

People will call the addiction treatment counselors looking for help, but not really, often they do not want to make the sacrifices it takes to achieve drug and alcohol addiction recovery. They dont wan't to leave the family, when many times thats the very reason they are abusing drugs and alcohol in the first place. Or they don't want to leave the state, don't want to be gone to long and many other reasons that are very insignifigant when it comes to the price you pay in addiction.

If you really want to achieve drug and alcoh0l recovery, you should rid yourself of any consideration or demands, as it will only hamper you in the long run. Addiction is hard enough to overcome, do yourself a favor and be willing to do whatever it takes to do it.

No matter how long a person's addiction has been going on, they still will likely want to avoid getting help as long as possible. Soemthing else to do, don't like that place, and a whole variety of other things spoken and thought which prevent the person from committing themselves to getting help Right NOW.

It is right now that the help is needed. Not latter when many more bad things have happened. Help someone get the help they need right now and not latter.
